6 Ways the iPad Will Affect Medical Research
Urbanpatriot – I would think that with the press that it is getting, that few of you are not aware of the arrival of Apple’s latest devices, the iPad. This tablet reader has been touted as a real innovation, providing plenty of functionality and brilliant applications to improve not only your experiences of reading eBooks but also giving you a different way to surf the web or check e-mail. That being said, did you know that there is a discussion going on about how the iPad could aid medical research?
Now, this is definitely a debate with two sides, but this post does not focus so much on the discussion’s pros and cons, as it lists the ways that the device will inevitably influence future research in health and medicine. Certainly, there are many objections being leveled at the iPad in terms of it is usefulness in general medical practice. Those have been documented elsewhere in much more detail.
For the purposes of this article, the focus is how the iPad could possible find a place in medicine at the research and development level. In this area, there may be far more possibilities currently open to the table device. In order to get clear picture, why don’t you take a look at 6 ways the iPad will affect medical research.
1. It offers the possibility of integrating separate tasks into one device.
2. It provides a way to collate databases of current and developing research channels
3. The convenience of its design allows it to be used more effectively in setting where a traditional desktop or even a laptop could be in the way.
4. Apps offered with iPad allow one to keep track of research notes and other data so it can be easily shared with collaborators in and outside the lab setting.
5. The iPad is an easy-to-use device that will cut down the time spent using multiple interfaces to do studies and conduct clinical trials.
6. Its mobility combined with the larger display makes it a great alternative when part of research means traveling.
Now, certainly, some of these points may be questioned or at least measured by one’s preferences for one device over another. This doesn’t change the facility of the iPad in the research setting. It is a good go-between between notebooks or laptops and the PC. It may be that having such a mobile device that packs other research-friendly features is the main area of influence that the iPad will have on medical research in the future.
