From their early days as the innocent shoes of a little girl, the Mary Jane style shoe has taken a far different path. Once the classic dress shoe for a young girl, Mary Janes are now a favorite of women looking for a sexy shoe with classic styling.

Odds are good you would recognize a Mary Jane shoe. They usually have a closed rounded toe and a strap across the foot. Variations in the color and patterns are another update the Mary Jane has seen, along with many different heel and platform heights, and decorative buckles on the straps.

There might be no more versatile shoe in any woman’s arsenal than the Mary Jane. Because the look can be varied so much, these shoes are a good pick no matter what the outfit. With jeans or your slinkiest dress, or even when you dress as a burlesque queen, Mary Janes are perfect.

Part of the sexiness of the Mary Jane is the innocent beginning of the shoes, but this style has also come a long way. Many of the Mary Janes seen today are a far cry from the original, giving them a true place of their own in every woman’s closet.
