Saw palmetto is really wonderful stuff, as are a great many herbs. However, it’s a serious mistake to think that herbs are risk free things you can take. The number of medicines that were originally extracted from herbs is downright astronomical. Arsenic is extracted from bitter almonds, cyanide can be found in peach pits and the heart drug digoxin was originally found in foxglove leaves. If an herb can cause enough of an effect on the body to serve as medicine, then it can cause side effects, too. In addition, it can interact with other medications you may be taking. Saw palmetto is great for a number of male disorders, but respect it the way you would any medication.
